The Munich Künstlerhaus
The idea for this building came from a circle
of famous painters, sculptors and musicians.
When in 1900 Prinzregent Luitpold of Bavaria
officially opened the „Künstlerhaus“ in Munich
the intention of its founding fathers was fulfilled:
to create a meeting place between artists
and society. In the spirit of historicism Gabriel
von Seidl built an edifice in the neo-renaissance
style that was a contemporary monument for the turn of the century. The upper
class celebrated together with ennobled artists as Franz von Lenbach, Fritz August
Kaulbach and Franz von Stuck. To this very day the „Künstlerhaus“ has been reserved
as a particularly popular meeting-place and location for artists in Munich.
